Health - stuffed when it's not good...

Health problems surfaced and were of sufficient severity to stuff up my working week week.
Last Friday I had another urethral dilatation to relieve the stricture. This time the procedure was performed by a urological surgeon at Strathfield Private hospital. The procedure itself was no different to other dilatations I've undergone. Problem was this time I did not emphasise how easy I can dehydrate that plus the incredibly long fasting time from 07:00 until I went into theatre @ 21:40 meant I was dehydrated despite the litre of saline they pumped into me after the procedure. The odd thing was I was able to drive back home on the following day [Saturday] with no problems and even on Sunday I felt fine although very tired.
By Monday I was feeling decidedly seedy... fatigued, lethargic and slightly headachey. I initially thought I was coming down with a bug. Instinctively I increased my fluid intake. No better and probably worse on Tuesday. Spent the next couple of days sleeping and drinking. Some bloods taken for a routine series of tests showed that by Thursday I was classically dehydrated. I managed however to stay away from hospital although a couple of litres of IV fluids would have probably improved things more quickly. I did not work during this week - which was last week from my current temporal perspective and that bugged me as I like my little part-time job and the people with whom I work. This week I worked as normal although I still managed to get inside the Emergency department of the local hospital... See later...
I suppose the lesson I've learned is that I can easily dehydrate without being aware of the problems building. I should be strict in maintaining a high fluid intake on a daily basis and that once dehydrated it takes a long time for my body go back to its normal state

Where's Dr Leonard McCoy and his biobeds when you need one?
