Three months after the buccal graft urethroplasty and the urine flow is still fine.
I'm due to see the urological surgeon at the end of May for the first internal examination since the operation in January.
Have already seen him a few weeks ago but this was a quick meeting:
“How are you? How is it going?”
“I'm fine and everything is working well.”
That was it. An expensive and very short and probably worthless meeting - at least it was for me. It would have made more sense for me to phone the surgeon and have the same exchange. It would certainly have been a cheaper consultation as it must have cost us the best part of $1000 for transport, accommodation and food. I admit that we usually would not have stayed in Sydney three days for this type of consultation but having had an infected toe amputated about three weeks prior to this visit it made sense to take time over the trip. Being Easter week meant accommodation was more costly although as we traveled by train to Sydney we had some hotel deal through Railcorp. Weather was OK and as usual we made the most of the time in Sydney by spending a day on the Sydney Explorer bus. My biggest regret was that I did not take my camera on this trip. I'm very attached to my camera and it feels wrong when I'm out and about without it. Oh well - next time.
I'd mentioned in a previous blog that the right cheek had been effected adversely by being used for the graft tissue: as time passes this becomes less pronounced although the cheek is definitely less effective during chewing but like most things you eventually get used to it and make allowances. I try to ensure that when cleaning my teeth I remove any food that's stuck between gum and cheek. There are, so far, no other issues causing me problems.
