morbid readings

Following the news about The Captain I looked at The Guardian on-line and checked out the obituaries - always a good read and interesting to see who had carked it over the last few months. Sad to say there were a couple I'd remembered recently departed: Ralph Coates: Burnley, Spurs & England footballer - had a great comb-over rivalling Bobby Charlton's but a bloody good player and Michael Sharvell-Martin - actor and reliable side-kick for Dave Allen in many shows.

Here in the Land of Oz life and my part-time contract goes on - extended again until the end of April. Still a nice feeling to be thought useful.

Christmas fast approaches and I'm starting to flap a bit about the fresh Vietnamese spring rolls as the roast pork I bought on Monday theoretically to add to the spring rolls on Christmas Day has been eaten - by me. Probably just as well as it may have been a bit sus by Christmas Day.
May make do with chicken and prawns instead. Will have to rush out early on Friday to pick up the last few bits and pieces I need for the rolls. With a picky father-in-law and son who will avoid any foreigh tucker like a dog poo sandwich I suppose I'd better do a couple of garlic bread rolls and herbed butter rolls to keep them happy... the life of a cook...
